Shimla, also known as the ‘Queen of Hills’ is all set to host the famous Shimla Summer Festival. Every year in the month of May and June, the state of Himachal Pradesh hosts a five-day grand festival in the capital Shimla which attracts tourists from all over the world.

Showcasing its lush green forests, and colonial architecture, Shimla comes alive with festivities and represents Himachal Pradesh’s rich legacy. The festival is a beautiful amalgamation of classical Pahadi culture wherein local artists and school children showcase their talent.

Well, Shimla has always been a hotspot for tourist, making it one of the most visited hill stations in India. However, the biggest highlight is the Summer Festival which has something for everyone, right from food stalls promoting Himalayan cuisine to mesmerizing cultural performances that will blow your mind.

The event is organized by the state government of Himachal Pradesh to promote tourism and showcase local culture through plays, workshops, seminars and much more. The festival also displays the works of various eminent personalities.

Main Attractions of the Summer Festival

While all the past editions of the festival has been a hit, this Shimla Summer Festival will be dedicated to the orphans. Infact, the festival will showcase performances from the orphaned children.

This year’s theme has been declared as ‘Children of the state’ under the CM Sukhashray Yojana. Apart from this, a natural flower show, painting competition, and a road safety awareness event will took place at the event.

For the first-time ever, a healthy baby competition will also be organized during the summer festival.

Best ways to reach Shimla

By Flight

The best and the quickest way to reach the capital of Himachal Pradesh is by taking a flight from Delhi or Chandigarh. The nearest airport to Shimla is at Gaggal, which is situated at a distance of 30 km from the hill station.

By Rail

Kalka Railway Station (88 km) is the nearest station from Shimla. You can arrive at the Kalka station and then take the toy train to reach Shimla. The toy train journey is said to be the most scenic railway journeys of all time.

By Road

There are buses to Shimla that operates from almost all major cities of India. Preferably, you can take a bus from Delhi or Chandigarh, and it will take you around 10-12 hours to reach the town. Also, you can come through your own transport.
