Cristiano Ronaldo’s personal life is not as perfect as his professional career. A woman named Kathryn Mayorga accused the star Portuguese footballer to rape her in a hotel room of Las Vegas in 2009. However, Clark County District Attorney’s Office declared that Ronaldo would not face any criminal charges as there were no great evidence against him to prove him guilty.
The police of Las Vegas started the investigation of the rape case in June, 2009. However, Kathryn Mayorga was not ready to disclose the name of the accuser at that point of time. So, the investigation got closed in the same year. In April 2017, a German news agency named ‘Der Spiegel’ published a news with accusing Cristiano Ronaldo involved in a rape. However, star Portuguese footballer claimed that it was a fake news. In September 2018, Kathryn Mayorga came in front of the World through the same German news agency.
She again filed a complaint against Cristiano Ronaldo in Nevada State court. The case file was reopened. Ronaldo tried to clean himself up with posting a message on Twitter. According to him,
‘I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.’
‘My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.’
The state court of Nevada asked the police department of Las Vegas to present the DNA sample of Cristiano Ronaldo in January, 2019. According to the lawyer of the Portuguese footballer, it will be very certain if the DNA matches with the DNA sample of Ronaldo. The Portuguese footballer always claimed that the incident happened in Las Vegas was consensual.
Cristiano Ronaldo paid a fee of $375,000 to the American woman Kathryn Mayorga to maintain the confidentiality of the case. On July 22, Clark County District Attorney’s Office gave their verdict. According to that verdict, the court would not accuse Cristiano Ronaldo in the case as the allegations against him was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Though, Cristiano Ronaldo was not proven guilty in this case, the incident still would remain as a black mark in his personal life. The players like him are idols of the young aspiring footballers. So, they should live a life that can be followed by all without any doubt in the character.
