Island Peak, standing tall at 6,189 meters is one of the famous trekking peaks located in Nepal. It is considered as Nepal’s most famous trekking peak and can be climbed by anyone who is just a trekker. For every mountain, there are the best seasons to climb it. Similarly for Island Peak it can be climbed almost any time of the year. A popular trekking and expedition company named SummitClimb offers organized Island Peak trips three times a year. They offer these trips in the month of January, April and November. In January it will be cooler, and you need to wear warm clothes whereas in April and November it will be warm. Warm trekking clothing include shirts, underwear, socks and trousers. For outer layers a very warm thick down jacket is required which should be windproof and waterproof. Make sure the jacket is the one with a hood. Similarly for your hands, medium weight gloves and for covering your head, sun hats and warm hat is required. Don’t forget to pack thick warm mitts and warm extra layers for your legs. We also need head lamps and always carry extra battery while in climb. A good sun goggles is required to tackle snow as well. Similarly for feet, fitting size snow boots with crampons is required. For trekking, good sturdy ankle high leather shoes is mandatory. Before starting your tour, every company will check your equipment. If you haven’t brought from your home, then it’s alright. In Kathmandu you can either buy it or get it on rent at affordable prices. Many of the Island Peak members got their clothing, shoes, and equipment from Kathmandu. There are more than 150 such shops in Kathmandu where you can buy brand new as well as secondhand items. While buying the clothes you can choose variety of colors, sizes and latest outfit. Equipment checking will be done twice, one by Sherpas and another by leaders.
Many of the climbers had begun their mountaineering journey by climbing the Island Peak. It is considered as an easy climbing peak. It is lot cheaper in comparison to Everest expedition cost.
