Cereals and Their Importance

Vaibhav Agrawal

Cereals are also referred to as grains, and they are a class of plants that produce foods rich in starch. There are numerous species of cereals cultivated across the globe today, most of which have similar dietary compositions. Grains are mainly starchy and rich in carbohydrates, with very few protein components; they are, however, deficient in certain minerals and calcium, and vitamins like vitamin A. One of the best things about cereals is their diversity; simply put, cereal plants are helpful in many ways, including baking, cooking, or making other foods or cereals. Some of the most popular cereal plants include rice, maize, wheat, oats, barley, and lots more.

In as much as cereal plants are staple foods that can be consumed for sustenance in several developing countries, there are other ways to enjoy cereal, and some of them include:-

●    Cinnamon Cereals

Cinnamon cereals are made with wheat and covered in sugar and cinnamon to give the cereal a strong cinnamon flavor. Organic Sprouted Cinnamon Cereals are healthier choices if you’re a fan of cinnamon cereals because organic sprouted cereal grains contain more nutrients; like protein, folate, zinc, iron, magnesium, and vitamin C, than mature cereal grains.

●    Crackers

Crackers refer to flat, dry baked food usually made with flour, but in recent times, other cereal plants can be used in place of flour. Crackers are considered a healthy way of consuming cereals because of the addition of different spices and flavors. The problem with many baked foods is their high gluten content. However, there are whole foods or gluten-free crackers options.

●    Oats

Oats are cereal plants grown primarily for their seeds. Oats are also healthy cereal plants as they are rich in nutrients and are considered excellent antioxidants. Other benefits of oats include their cholesterol-reducing ability and their role in maintaining healthy blood sugar. Hence, they are considered the most nutritious whole grain. Oats are helpful for human consumption as well as livestock feed.
